Although
there is definite bias in favour of research aimed
at rural development, international economic relations,
environment, ecology, employment, public administration
and development communication receive serious attention
for research and analysis at CReNIEO.

has succeeded in achieving most of these objectives
with the active involvement of highly accomplished
staff dedicated to making research an effective tool,
maintaining high standards of objectivity, quality
and deep commitment.

Studies are oriented to the problems of developing
countries, such as social justice, quality of life
and environmental concerns, both at macro and micro
levels. International economics is a speciality research
area.

Economics
Research Methodology and Economic theory as adopted
by the Department of Economics at the University are
followed for Paper I and Paper II. Paper III and dissertations
are in the exclusive area of Environmental Economics,
introduced for the first time in any Indian University
at the M.Phil level.
Environmental
Studies
CReNIEO lays great stress on environmental
studies and is the institution of Madras University
offering Environmental Economics for M.Phil. studies.
Most of the theses are on Environmental Economics
and almost all of them have been highly commended.
Women
Studies
Women studies section promotes both research and action,
related to women’s participation in the life
and growth of the society.
M.Phil.
Course work
The course work consists of lectures, in house student
participatory seminars, discussions, book-reviews,
field trips to ecologically sensitive sport and video-shows
on current environmental issues.
Research
Methodology Analysis and Illustrating
Dissertations cover the economic aspects of the specific
ecological issues and recommendations that help decision-makers
and administrators.
